Poland and Netherlands to launch Russian-language TV channel in EU

This is what the Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Grzegorz Schetyna said on July 20 in Brussels. A conference discussing the financial details of the project will be held in Warsaw on September 10.

“We see this initiative as Polish-Dutch, but want others to join us,” said the head of the Polish Foreign Ministry.

The main goal of the channel is to make “free speech and information” available for Eastern Europe, Russia, and the Russian-speaking minority in Eastern Europe. According to Mr Schetyna, the new channel will make programs that other Russian-speaking media will be able to use. The Head of the Polish MFA believes that the television channel may begin its work as early as next year.
