Picketers in Brussels: Third world war may be unleashed in Belarus

The posters ‘Stop Putin’ and ‘Stop the War were spotted in the capital of the EU on Thursday.

In Brussels, activists of the Belarusian-European Association held a picket. Their aim was to draw attention of European officials and residents to the upcoming joint Belarusian-Russian exercise Zapad-2017. The participants are sure that the war game is posing a dire threat to world peace.

“Under the pretext of military maneuvers the Kremlin crime syndicate is getting ready for seizing the assets of the Belarusian people, as well as preparing for taking over the EU countries,” picketer Yuliya Mamoyka said.

Zapad-2017 starts in September

“The problem is that the third world war may be unleashed in Belarus. The Belarusian people will again be the victim of political games – both Russian and European,” Dzmitry Pimenov, head of the Belarusian-European Association, says.

Russian troops arrived in Barysau

Belarusian Internet users have recently shared a video showing a column of Ural army trucks with Russian number plates in the town of Barysau. They were escorted by Belarusian traffic police cars.

Lithuanian president Dalia Grybauskaite and a number of European politicians believe that the ‘West-2017’ demonstrates the preparation of Belarus and Russia to the war with the West. In mid April, Oleksandr Turchynov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, stressed that the joint military exercise might become the preparation for an assault against Ukraine in September. In turn, Belarusian democratic circles fear that Russian troops will not come back home after the war game.
