Pages of Piotr Masherau and Kastus Kalinouski in Belarusian heroes social network

“We spend lot of time in various social networks, browse the pages of people who do not deserve our time. Why not devote our time to the people who deserve it?” say the developers of Internet project featuring information about prominent Belarusians.

The Belarusian Heroes project is a service, just like a social network, where well-known figures of the Belarusian history have accounts. Authors of the idea noted that the Internet community will find the site easy and clear to use. It resembles the popular social network VKontakte, and that is where they go every day.

“We are not doing this for money, we have no political goals, we just do what we like,” said the developers of the resource.

The site contains, in chronological order, the most important events in life of the Belarusian heroes presented as messages that users themselves post in their accounts. The pages of the famous Belarusians contain historical photos and an interactive map showing places that have are somehow linked with these individuals. In addition, the site offers interesting facts about the prominent Belarusians: it has the names of the settlement where there are streets named in their honor, scholarships and awards in their name, quotes and so on.

For example, the account of Uladzimir Mulyavin says that his group Pesnyary was the first group of the Soviet Union, that performed in the USA. The American press said that this group “deserves a standing ovation”.

“We are interested in people who not just yelled  ‘Long Live Belarus!’ at each corner, but really did something for her to live. We can compare their life with ours, see that in our age they have already achieved something or did not achieve anything, and they still had something ahead of them. We can learn that it’s never too late to change your life, that you can start all over again. Each of us can become a hero regardless of age, sex, income, and physical condition. We have to work and think not only about ourselves but also about people. As they say: “Hard work builds a New York,” says one of the site authors.

Among the heroic figures presented in the service are the author of the first Belarusian grammar Branislau Tarashkevich, poet Larissa Heniyush, BPR Prime Minister Vaclau Lastouski, head of the liberation uprising Kastus Kalinouski, and popular in his time, first secretary of the Communist Party of Belarus Piotr Masherau.

Currently, only 28 historical figures have accounts there. For this reason, Kastus Kalinouski has, for example, only two online friends – Frantishak Bagushevich and Napoleon Orda. The orthodox saint Eufrasinnya of Polatsk is only friends only Frantsishak Skaryna and Catholic priest Adam Stankevich. One of the most popular profiles – page of Yanka Kupala. The poet is already friends with 14 others.

The authors note that the users can offer outstanding people to add their account to the service and are calling to join the project by helping to collect information. By registering on belarusianheroes.com, users can download information about the characters for essays, reports and receive news and updates about the project on their email.

In the future, the developers plan to add even more features to the site and to develop biographies of other prominent people: Ian Pazniak, Tadeusz Kosciuszko, Barys Kit and others.
