On September 9, residents of Russian cities took to the streets to protest against raising the retirement age.
The police detained 1,018 persons, OVD-Info reports.
St. Petersburg took the lead in the number of detainees (452) were in, 183 persons were placed in detention in Yekaterinburg; 43 – in Moscow.
Two criminal cases regarding alleged violence against the police were initiated in the Russian capital, a Telegram channel of Open Russia says.
Sunday’s protest rallies were held by supporters of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny who is currently in custody.
The Russian State Duma adopted in the first reading a bill to raise the retirement age, which is approved by the Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, many Russians are violently opposed to the reform.
