OSCE meeting: Russia blames Ukraine for blogger’s death. But he is alive

At the recent OSCE Human Dimension Implementation Meeting in Warsaw, the Russian delegation made a mistake which came into the public eye.

“At the OSCE international conference on freedom of speech, a representative of the Russian delegation called for punishing Ukraine for the murder of Shariy!” journalist Olga Len said on Facebook.

Notorious blogger Anatoly Shariy left Ukraine during the rule of Viktor Yanukovych. According to Shariy, the authorities persecuted him for showing power abuse cases in his video blog. After Euromaidan protests, he began to criticize new political realities in Ukraine. Many suspect him of being recruited by the Kremlin and spreading pro-Russian propagandist articles. In addition, Ukraine charged him with pedophilia and staging an attack on himself.

However, Anatoly Shariy is safe and sound. The Russian representative must have been mistaken him for Pavel Sheremet who was killed in a bomb attack in Kyiv on July 20, 2016, Ukrainian historian Yury Hudymenko suggests.

At the same time, Ukrainian politicians and journalists wonder whether the Kremling is masterminding another ‘attack by the Kyiv junta’. MP Oleksiy Goncharenko even advised Shariy to reflect on his future.
