Official flag and Pahonya emblem: Belarusian-born Muay Thai Champion gets award

Belarusian Vital Hurkou who sensationally won the 2016 Muay Thai Championship final was wearing a T-shirt depicting Pahonya, the historical emblem of the Belarusian nation, and having an official – red-green – flag during the awarding ceremony.

There are also photos of Hurkou holding a white-red-white flag and a banner with the title of a musical band he performs with (‘Brutto’).

Asked about the T-shirt later, Hurkou snapped: “This is neither more neither less than a shirt. No questions have come yet.”

“Do you like Sponge Bob? And I like this T-shirt,” he said.

Vital Hurkou defeated Ekapan Sambaansab from Thailand, who won all his matches in the last four years.

Hurkou could have missed this event: the Sports Ministry had no funds for his trip. Within hours Belarusians collected 68 million Br that Hurkou rejected. In early May, the Ministry of Sports said that they found the money.
