Office instead of prison: Lukashenka promotes ‘guilty’ minister

Alyaksandr Lukashenka has appointed former Industry Minister Vital Vouk Aide to the President of the Republic of Belarus – Inspector for Vitsebsk region.

As reported earlier, during his visit to Orsha on August 13, the Belarusian leader blasted local authorities and the industrial sector management for poor performance and accused them of window dressing.

“And God forbid all that you have planned yesterday will not be completed as well as the things I charged you with! As an alternative, Vouk may arrive here to put everything [the industry in Orsha] in order. <….> If he does not agree, he will be put behind bars,” Lukashenka warned.

A day later, the Belarusian leader slammed members of the Cabinet for a ‘ blase attitude’ to his orders and instructions. On August 18, Lukashenka reshuffled the government and revealed the names of the newly-appointed top officials.

Vital Vouk was dismissed ‘for failure to fulfill the President’s instructions’. However, it turns out that he has not been jailed or sent to Orsha. But for how long will he manage to hold his position when the name of his superior is Alyaksandr Lukashenka – that is the question.
