Moscow is not conducting any negotiations on deploying its military base to Belarus, Russian Ambassador Alexander Surikov told journalists on Friday.
“If anything [happens]… and the question [about the Russian base in Belarus] is raised, then, as I understand it, we will discuss it,” he stressed.
The question was put in the context of Poland’s plans to host an American military base.
A week ago, Belarusian Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makey said at a press conference in Brussels that Belarus was not going to deploy a Russian military base on its territory, but the decision might be reviewed if Poland hosted a permanent U.S. military presence. In May 2016, the minister said that the deployment of a Russian airbase to Belarus was not in question ‘so far’.
