No BMWs: Lukashenka orders civil servants to use Belarus-made Geely as company cars

In the near future, Belarusian civil servants will use only Belarusian-made automobiles as their company cars, president Alyaksandr Lukashenka said when attending the exposition of new equipment made at Belarusian machine-building enterprises on Thursday.

The president’s attention was attracted by a sample of the executive car, the production of which BelGee company is to launch in Q3 2016. According to Lukashenka, the car is comfortable and well-designed.

“There will be no imported cars for civil servants, except for the prime minister, deputy prime ministers and top officials,” the Belarusian leader ordered.

At the same time, there should not be any rush in solving the question, he stressed. Lukashenka expects replacing officials’ cars to be a gradual process.

“We should buy our cars; moreover, they are twice as cheap as German ones. You said that this is a good car, therefore, civil servant should buy it. I instruct Sheyman (Head of the Belarus President Property Management Directorate) to work on this issue, to determine how many cars are needed for the entire vertical, ranging from executive committees’ chairmen to ministers,” state-run news agency BelTA quotes Lukashenka as saying.
