Navalny sentenced to 30 days of arrest for anti-corruption rally

The Simonovsky court in Moscow has found the leader of the Anti-Corruption Fund guilty of repeated violations of the regulations on holding rallies and disobeying police.

Mr Navalny asked the court to postpone the hearing of the case, because he and his lawyers had no opportunity to get acquainted with the materials, but he was rejected.

Mr Navalny was detained on June 12 at the entrance to his residential house, when a politician was heading to the rally on Tverskaya Street.

The Russian authorities violently dispersed demonstrations against corruption, organized by the supporters of Aleksey Navalny on the occasion of the national holiday — the Day of Russia. Apart from the police, people were also beaten by Cossacks. Russian police detained several hundred to a thousand of people (700 in Moscow alone).
