Old rubles of large denominations almost out of circulation -- National Bank

Belarusians can pay with both denominated and new rubles until the end of the year.

According to the National Bank, the old money of large denomination have almost entirely been removed from circulation. But Belarusians still have a lot of small money on hand, said the head of the main cash circulation unit of the National Bank Syarhei Haiko.

“Banknotes of large denominations (50000, 100000 and 200000), are almost impossible to see now. They have practically been withdrawn — by 98.3%. But the little money is still there. We hope that the National Bank will get all the notes of large denominations by 2017. And about half of the small will do, too,” said Haiko.

National Bank has previously acknowledged that the Belarusians are not yet accustomed to the coins. It expressed its concern to the commercial banks, warning that before January 1, 2017, there will not be enough coins available in the circulation.

Before that, you can pay with both old and new money.

The denomination was held in Belarus this year on 1 July. Then the new money was released — four bills without zeros, as well as coins.
