Nadezhda Savchenko lawyers arrive at court wearing body armor


A trial of Ukrainian pilot has started in the Russian Donetsk (Rostov region).

“We met with Nadezhda. She was transported to Voronezh for 12 hours. Then she was held in jail in Voronezh for 4 days. Then she was taken to Novocherkassk. She’s all right,” wrote in his Twitter Savchenko’s lawyer Mark Feigin.

Mark Feigin and his colleague Nikolai Polozov appeared in the courtroom wearing body armor.

Nadezhda Savchenko is accused of complicity in the murder of Russian journalist and illegally crossing the Ukraine-Russia border. She faces up to 25 years in prison. The Ukrainian has not admitted guilt.

Nadezhda Savchenko was born May 11, 1981 in Kyiv. After school, she received a training of fashion designer, she studied journalism for a year, then she went to serve under contract in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In June 2014, Nadezhda Savchenko enlisted as volunteer and participated in the battles against the militants serving in Aidar battalion (she was also an officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has the rank of lieutenant)

On June 17, she was  helping the wounded in the battlefield near the village of Metalist at Luhansk. Soon she was captured and later was taken to Russia and transfered to the Russian special services. Her whereabouts in Russia became known on July 8, 2014.

The Russian side claims that on June 17, 2014 Ms Savchenko вшкусеув the mortar fire in the area of ​​Luрansk, which led to the death of Russian journalist Igor Korneliuk and Anton Voloshin. In October 2014, at the parliamentary elections Ms Savchenko was elected to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine with the party Fatherland. Ukrainian parliament elected her as the country representative to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
