Activists detained at Lenin monument opening released

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”390704″ img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]One of the leaders of the Young Front, Zmitser Dashkevich, was detained at the opening of the Lenin monument.

He was later released along with Siarhey Palcheusky, Artsyom Leuchanka and Raman Hancharou.

The monument to Vladimir Lenin was put up “at the request of the Communists”.

In fact, the new Lenin is a cleaned and repainted old Lenin, who previously stood in the courtyard of the factory. “The monument was often repainted: into gray, then green, and now we cleaned it, made a new pedestal,” said Andrey Suslenka, Deputy Director General on Ideology, Human Resources and Social Development at the MTZ.

The initiative to erect a monument to Lenin near MTZ has caused indignation of the enterprise workers.

“But how else can we relate to this? The plant has almost no money. How is it possible to take the last money for the monument? The material and the work of people costs money… All his life he stood in the courtyard. No, we have him here! That’s disgusting,” Alena and Halina were outraged.

– What does Lenin mean in Belarus?

“To us he symbolizes wasted MTZ money”.
