Manhole cover can turn into killer: Minsk filmmaker shoots short blockbuster

Chases, spying, killer drones – there is something new for the Belarusian cinema. The action fiction ‘Collector’ filmed in the streets of Minsk is coming out.

Mikalai Asadchy, a 24-year-old resident of Minsk, has been shooting a futuristic short film telling the story of a young IT-specialist and evil-doing engineers for two years. The Collector is to be released soon.

“I have been working on the film for so long because, in fact, I do it singlehandedly, without any funds. Its budget is $400, not including the cost of equipment which I have bought over several years. The best part of money was spent on renting lights and other equipment, which we did not have, and on fuel,” Asadchy told belsat.eu.

He wanted to make a movie about robots from the very start, Mikalai said.

“I was going to make a movie containing graphics, but I wanted a different one, because, for example, The Terminator has already become boring boring. Once I saw an open manhole and wondered what had happened, who had stolen it… I started to think out a story – what if it had never been stolen, just had flew off itself?! We wanted to show that we live our lives but do not even know what might be hiding under our feet.”

‘We are amateurs’

Shooting has not been completed yet. In total, the project involves nine persons, but only Mikalai and his friend who is responsible for color correction are busy with its production.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”35467″ img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]

“We are amateurs. I have no special cinema education, I just used to shooting something for friends and myself. And when I studied Communication Design at the Belarusian State University, I learned 3D graphics. It was challenging to connect it with videos. That was what really motivated me.”

The filmmaker hopes that the results of two years’ work can be viewed soon, in particular, by the end of this year.
