The 5th Belarusian National Congress kicked off in Minsk on Wednesday. Its participants are expected to evaluate implementing the program on Belarus’ social and economic development in 2011-2015 and discuss the main provisions of the corresponding program for 2016-2020.

The main aim set for the current five-year term is bolstering the competitive ability of the economy and the quality of life of Belarusian citizens.

Belarusian president Alyaksandr Lukashenka opened the event; Belsat.eu has found the brightest moment of his speech:

11:15 Accoring to Lukashenka, Belarus is capable of protecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity. „It is an open secret that by creating Polonez multiple-launch rocket system we wanted to make a gift to the entire country, to the delegates of the Congress, it is a gift that ensures a peaceful sky to our nation.”

11:40 “The Belarusians are wise people, they see what is going on in the world, they understand true causes and difficulties. They realize that in the current circumstances peace, the country’s independence, security are the most important values.”

11:55 About state control authorities’ work at enterprises: “The words I say from this rostrum is law for you!”

If you do not have facts proving that a manager or head head of any level, in a public or private company, breaks law, you have nothing to do in this company!”

12:00 Addressing public servants: “The sense of everything, including our lives, lies in simple things. One should take their clothes off and work oneself up into a sweat otherwise we die!”

About the Belarusian NPP being built in Astravets: “This is fierce competition. Once the nuclear power plant comes on stream, we will make a huge leap forward, and, naturally, we will become more competitive. Hence is the criticism and complaints. People should know this. We know this, and we will not give up. We will implement all the projects we have planned.”

12:35 About the development of the regions: “We need a uniform distribution of the productive forces in the country. One should not pull everything to Minsk, I say this once again! We have already faced trouble driving during rush hours!”

12:55 About sports: “If our athletes do not take part, we cheer for Russians!”

13:10 About the ‘way to progress and creation’: “Do not sink into depression and stagnation. We should retain all the best achievents of the past and confidently move towards the goal!”
