Movie made by Belsat TV shortlisted for main contest of documentary film festival in Gdynia


Movie ‘The Raid’ has been shortlisted for the main contest of all-Polish Documentary Film Festival ‘Rebellious. Unbowed. Renounced’ (‘Niepokorni, Niezłomni, Wyklęci’) in Gdynia.

The film will be competing for one of the valuable prizes – the main prize ‘Golden Resistor’ for the best film [in the days of ‘Solidarity’ the resistor was a symbol of resistance for the Polish opposition]; for ‘Platinum Resistor,” an award for overall contribution to cinema; for Janusz Krupski Special Award for bravery and efforts in the search of rebellious, unbowed, renounced figures and subjects; for ‘Source’ award for the inspiration of artists, and for Director’s Prize for the best artistic form.

The Raid, directed by Beata Hyży-Czaplińska, was filmed by Belsat TV on commission from Białystok Department of the Institute of National Remembrance (Instytut Pamięci Narodowej). It is devoted to the Institute’s activities on uncovering the truth about the victims of the August Raid.

The August raid is an operation that was carried out by officers of the Red Army. Its was aimed at eliminating the anti-communist underground near Augustow and Suwałki. The August raid is sometimes called ‘Little Katyn’. In the course of the operation about 7,000 persons were detained, 600 were taken to an undisclosed direction.
