Mother of Nadezhda Savchenko appeals to Angela Merkel

Mother of the Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko has appealed to the Chancellor of Germany to help free her daughter from the Russian prison. With this aim the woman came to Berlin to meet with Angela Merkel.

“Angela Merkel is great authority in the world. I wrote her a letter appealing to her to help me release my daughter. We arrived today with the hope that the German side would help us,” said the mother of Nadezhda Savchenko.

The Ukrainian pilot has been in a Moscow prison since last summer. For almost three months she has been on hunger strike, she lost 28 kg of weight, and her health has deteriorated significantly.

Earlier, the prison administration proposed to transfer Savchenko to one of the hospitals in Moscow, but she refused.

On March 5, the pilot agreed with the doctors and started using chicken broth for food, but on the 14th she again resumed the hunger strike in protest against her illegal detention in captivity.
