More than 2,000 people to be freed under amnesty. Statkevich stays in prison.

The law on “Amnesty over the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945” has entered into force.

According to the Interior Ministry, the correctional system units have begun to implement it. Based on preliminary calculations, 2,200 people will be freed from prison.

The amnesty also does not cover those convicted for “organizing mass disorder.” It is under this article that the ex presidential candidate Mikalai Statkevich was convicted and is serving a sentence.

“And if we add here that he is a malicious violator of discipline and was moved from colony to prison, then he misses the amnesty twice,” said in an interview with Euroradio Head of Department for Supervision over the legality of the execution of criminal penalties of the General Prosecutor’s Office Yury Haroshka.

But the amnesty covers those who fully compensate the damage. According to Head of the Interior Ministry Department for Execution of Sentences, Zhana Byturytskaya, last year such criminals paid more than 10 billion rubles in compensation.
