Minsk police prevent independent journalists from performing professional duties

Police officers and their boss Maxim Sviridau, the head of Leninsky district police department in Minsk, barred independent journalists from filming a public discussion and threatened to get them out of the room.

The unpleasant situation happened in Minsk-based school No 1 which was hosting a public discussion on the construction of a new shopping mall in Malinin street.

The policemen copied passport data of independent journalists Yuliya Labanava and Ales Lyubyanchuk. Then they banned the reporters from filming the event saying that otherwise the duo would be kicked out of the meeting.

The journalists consider such actions of the police as putting obstacles in their way and work.
