Minsk: Police detain Belsat TV cameraman


Aliaksandr (Ales) Barazenka has been detained and taken to Leninski district directorate of Interior, he said on Facebook.

Performing his professional duties Ales Barazenka was filming Tsentralny district court where Homyel activist Yury Rubtsou’s case was being tried. Policemen are identifying the detainees.

Journalists Natallia Valakida and Siarhei Satsyuk-Hrabouski were also detained.

(UPD) After spending three hours at the police station, the journalists have been released. Nobody checked their equipment; the police might have been ordered to prevent them from covering the trial.

According to the belarusian Association of Journalists, police grabbed activist Illya Dabratvor who had a T-shirt bearing slogan ‘Freedom for Political Prisoners’ on him.

It is to be recalled that Dunja Mijatovic, the OSCE representative on Freedom of the Media, is on her visit to Belarus at the moment. Ms Mijatovich organised a workshop dedicated to the interaction between mass media and law enforcement officials in Minsk on September, 15.
