Readings from the executed Belarusian poets will be held on the night of October 29th to 30th in Kurapaty near Minsk.
Kurapaty, a place on the outskirts of Minsk, is not just the national memorial and a mass grave of the victims of Stalinist repression, it is a site of historical and cultural heritage.
“Wrap up in layers, take hot tea and candles. Come join us and share information under the hashtag #ночпаэтаў (Poets’ Night),” Anastasia Guseva, an activist of the youth opposition organization Young Front, said on Facebook.
The readings will start at 20:00 on October 29 and will last until the morning.
October 29 is a black day of the Belarusian history. On this day in 1937 Stalin’s secret police, the NKVD, shot more than 100 cultural figures, mainly writers and poets.
