Valer Malashka appointed as Belarus Minister of Labor and Social Protection

Head of Belarus Alyaksandr Lukashenka has appointed Valer Malashka as Minister of Labour and Social Protection.

The President noted that the decision was taken after careful consideration of a number of candidates. The choice in favor of Valer Malashka was made also because Malashka better understands problems and deficiencies at the grassroots level, working with them on a daily basis, the state news agency BelTA informs.

“The Ministry in question must come at the head of serious improvement in all spheres. The biggest problem we have here is the people’s dissatisfaction of certain issues,” said Lukashenka.

The country leader also drew attention to issues such as wages, improvement of the pension system and other social decisions.

“Everything has to be worked on your side. All that we will be working on needs to be ground,” Lukashenka said.

Prior to the appointment Valer Malashka worked as Deputy Chairman of the Mahiliou Oblast Executive Committee.

Since 2009, the Minister of Labour and Social Protection was Maryiana Shchotkina. She became notorious for her controversial statements, one of which ran as follows: “We have noticed that almost 93% of Belarusians work only one job, and this includes men. But if the mother is busy in the household and with children, let the Father “get in on the act”.

This year, Maryiana Shchotkina became Deputy Chairwoman of the Upper House of Parliament.
