Police officers to appear in court over alleged false testimony against opposition activist

Uladzimir Nyapomnyashchykh, a resident of Homiel and activist of the United Civic Party of Belarus, is outraged about the police’s involvement in the falsification of protocols upon oppositionists.

On September 12, Mr Nyapomnyashchykh was going to take part in a peaceful action protest against ballot-rigging at the parliamentary elections in Minsk. On the way to the capital, he was detained by riot policemen not far from Homiel railway station,

“They drew up two protocols for ‘disorderly conduct’. According to them, I used bad language at the bus stop in the presence of people. Interestingly, the policemen, not passers-by, were witnesses. They wrote the protocols when I was absent, I was not given even a copy,” the activist told racja.com.

The case against the policemen is to be considered on October 31.
