May Day rallies taking place in Belarus. Belsat is covering the protests


May Day protests are taking place all around the country. Belsat is following the events, streaming the rallies where possible.

 

Police detains people keeping them from taking place in the rallies. The detentions took place in Slonim, Baranavichy, Homiel, Mahiliou, Brest and Minsk.

At the Minsk rally the crowd called on Lukashenka to resign and demanded the release of political detainees.

Belarus is ready for change and ready for a new life, said Uladzimir Nyaklyayeu who was also present at the rally in Minsk.

Among other activists in Minsk were Pavel Sevyarynets and Vyachaslau Siuchyk. The crowd chanted: “Long live Belarus!” and “Freedom to political prisoners!”

Maryna Adamovich, wife of Mikola Statkevich, also came to the Kastrychnitskaya Square in Minsk. Her husband had been arrested for 5 days to keep him from taking part in the May Day manifestations.
