Many happy returns: Lithuania marking centenary of independence restoration


Lithuania is holding the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Act of Independence on Friday.

On February 16, 1918 the Act proclaimed the restoration of the independent state of Lithuania. The document was signed by the Council of Lithuania chaired by Jonas Basanavičius.

Festivity is in the air in the neighbouring country today. On the occasion of the centennial of the country’s independence a Small Planet Airline plane found drew the figure 100 in the sky.

Symboliс fires will start to be lit at Vilnius Gediminas Avenue – from the Cathedral Square to Independence Square – at 17.00. A gala concert Sing Lithuania will kiсk off at 19.00 in Cathedral Square.
