Makey unhappy with Eurasian Union. Mutual trade level falling


Foreign Minister of Belarus said that Minsk is “not fully satisfied” with the state of development of the Eurasian Union. “For us, the Eurasian Economic Union is not just entertainment to play and throw away,” said Uladzimir Makey.

Official statistics does indicate that in economic terms the Eurasian Union does not meet the expectations of its creators. In the first four months of 2015, the mutual trade between the countries of the Eurasian Union has decreased by almost 27%.

Reduction of mutual trade has been observed in all major commodity groups: supplies, raw materials, chemical products, equipment and clothing.

“We initially expected and planned our participation in this organization with the aim of getting the most out both for the country and for the people. Unfortunately, today we are not fully satisfied with the activity of this organization,” said Mr Makey on state TV channel Belarus 1.

Created in January 2015, the Union includes Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Armenia. Since the beginning, the activities of the Eurasian Union have been related to a number of scandals and disputes, official Minsk has repeatedly tried to get the Russian preferences and credits in exchange for membership in the association.
