Lukashenka tried to press Lithuanian MFA into service - MP

Alyaksandr Lukashenka repeatedly attempted to factor into the policy of Lithuania through businessmen working in Belarus, Lithuanian MP Laurynas Kasčiūnas said in Belsat TV show Territory of Truth.

“Can Lukashenka make our businessmen force certain decisions out of politicians? Here is an example: after the 2010 elections, when people took to the streets and he ordered to beat them, the EU held a discussion about imposing sanctions. According to unofficial information, Lukashenka called some Lithuanian businessmen and asked them to compel our Ministry of Foreign Affairs to block sanctions. But as you can see, the sanctions were not blocked, and there were always people who said that Lukashenka should be sanctioned for such actions. Of course, some risks exist, but we control them,” Kasčiūnas said.

Security and defense; economics; politics; the ‘Russian World’ are the topics for discussion at four episodes of Territory of Truth in Belsat TV studio. Experts from Belarus, Georgia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia and Ukraine are taking part in the debates in the run-up of the 2018 presidential elections in Russia.
