Lukashenka to journalists: No country in Europe is closer to China than Belarus

Belarus president Alyaksandr Lukashenka has met with the representatives of China’s central and regional mass media in Minsk on Thursday.

The event has taken place at the Palace of Independence and become a key event in the press tour of 40 journalists working for the biggest mass media outlets of China.

“Unfortunately, the global economy and politics have become unpredictable. However, in spite of the global challenges Belarus and China have created strong, solid, and reliable interstate ties, the relations of trustworthy all-round strategic partnership and mutually beneficial cooperation. Probably, no country in Europe is closer to China than Belarus.”

More Chinese investment needed

Belarus and China have already implemented dozens of investment projects in the energy sector and construction, are building the industrial park Great Stone together. However, the Belarusian leader expressed hope that the relations with China will be even more efficient and the inflow of investors from China would increase.

“Now it is very important to make progress in economic issues. It is very important for us to step up efforts to attract enterprises with cutting-edge technologies of the future to the industrial park Great Stone,” he said.

Cooperation with Guangdong

Alyaksandr Lukashenka has announced plans to launch a direct flight between Minsk and Guangzhou, the capital of China’s most developed province Guangdong. The sides have advanced trade and achieved considerable results in tourism and science. Guangdong Province is also ready to set up light emitting diode companies in the China-Belarus industrial park.

One Belt One Road summit

The Belarusian president is going to take part in One Belt, One Road summit in Beijing in mid May. He is also set with Chinese leader Xi Jinping as part as part of the forthcoming visit to China.

“The current press tour has been organized especially ahead of One Belt, One Road summit which Belarus is set to attend. The forum will consider issues of global importance,” he said.
