Lukashenka’s alma mater opens Hall of Fame


The restored Hall of Fame has been opened at Mahiliou University. Apparently, its centerpiece is the figure of Alyaksandr Lukashenka, the most famous graduate of the university.

The display in the Hall of Fame shows the history of the university from its establishing in 1913 as as Mogilev Teachers’ Institute to these days.

“History is created by people. Today we can be proud of belonging to the institution that trained the first president of our country,”Andrey Kuntsevich, deputy chairman of Mahiliou regional executive committee, said.

The Belarusian leader graduated from History Faculty in 1975.

Alyaksandr Lukashenka clearly takes pride of the Hall of Fame – there are pictures of student Lukashenka and president Lukashenka, his record book, the 2014 Constitution of Belarus, election leaflets.

Apart from the head of state, the names of outstanding alumni – athletes, cultural and education workers – are on the wall of honour.

‘The Hall of Fame is not only a museum exhibition, but also a classrom. Each group of students would have an opportunity to have classes there at least once, Rector Dzyanis Duk promised.

The opening of the Hall of Fame was held as part of celebrating the 105th anniversary of the university, as well as just before the 5th Forum of Belarusian and Russian regions which will take place in Mahiliou on October, 10-12. According to the program of the Forum, Lukashenka’s alma mater will be a meeting place for the Belarusian and Russian delegations.
