Lukashenka’s aide arrested on suspicion of $200K bribetaking


The KGB arrested Syarhei Rauneyka, a presidential aide and state inspector in Hrodna region, when he was receiving a bribe of $200,000.

“Ravneyka came to the attention of the authorities more than a year ago in connection with information about numerous facts of his taking bribes for settling the issues which were within his competence. Operational search actions documenting the illegal activity of the official were carried out after they had been authorised by the head of state. He was detained when getting a bribe, with money in his hands,” the KGB press service reports.

A case under Article 430-3 of the Criminal Code was initiated against Rauneyka. He may face imprisonment of up to 15 years.

The suspect, who has been put in the KGB detention centre, is giving a confession, the statement reads.

Previously, Syarhei Rauneyka served as a top official at the State Control Committee of the republic of Belarus.
