No compassion for ‘crooks’. Lukashenka comments on arrest of reputed businessman

Belarusian president Alyaksandr Lukashenka has made a comment on the recent arrest of businessman Alyaksandr Knyrovich by the Belarusian Committee for State Security (KGB).

According to the KGB, Knyrovich and his associates are suspected of giving bribes to top managers working in the Belarusian housing and utility sector.

Taking about the case of the prominent businessman, blogger and founder of Sarmat-STI group of companies, Lukashenka made a point of the ‘unacceptability of committing unlawful acts’.

“This issue [of Knyrovich’s business activity – Belsat] was under control, and I ordered to deal with it without any delay or fear. Hundreds of thousands of dollars turn out to be circulating there! We have found all black accounts! What is important is that he has admitted his guilt, he is now begging for mercy and ready to compensate for all damages. But there will be no compassion for crooks! A thief should be in prison – such is the brief instruction I put on the report of the Chairman of the KGB. Everyone involved [in the shady case] will be jailed!” Lukashenka promised.

Interestingly, in last week’s interview with Belsat TV Knyrovich evaluated the cost of residence in Sharshuny, where, according to local residents, the head of state comes to rest and which may be his 17th residence.
