Lukashenka blasts govt for fake booze, imported alcohol on Belarusian market

The Belarusian government is indecisive in taking measures to protect the domestic market from poor-quality alcohol products, president Alyaksandr Lukashenka said at the government conference on Thursday.

“Instructions have been given to prevent poor-quality products from penetrating the domestic market and reduce the shady trade in alcohol beverages. Apart from the state budget losing money, poor-quality alcohol represents a threat to the health and lives of the people,” state-owned news agency belTA quotes Lukashenka as saying.

Although a special decree was passed on July 1, 2015 to introduce additional protective measures to bolster the state regulation of the manufacturing and turnover of alcohol products, there are still certain negative trends in the field, in particular, increasing imports of alcohol, a rise in shady trade and a drop in domestic production.
