Lukashenka afraid of opposition provocations on Victory Day

The head of Belarus Alyaksandr Lukashenka demanded that the law enforcement agencies prevent possible provocations during the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Victory.

He said this on March 5 at a meeting with top staff of the Interior Ministry, Interior Troops and students of the Faculty of the Internal Troops of the Military Academy, BelaPAN reports.

“You have to solve important daily tasks, and the service is really a battle, so you must adequately carry out your duties and maintain esprit de corps,” Belarusian leader was quoted by his press service.

Lukashenka noted that this year all the law enforcement agencies will take a serious test.

“We are celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory. This is the most important holiday for every Belarusian. But, unfortunately, there is in our country a small group of people, someone calls them “opposition”, or so they call themselves, which not only distorts history, praising the Nazi collaborators’ bloody deeds, but also with all the forces trying to destabilize the situation in the society. They demonstrate aggressive forms of the political struggle  during various political campaigns,” said the head of state.

Therefore, he said, “there is a certain probability of provocative actions, which must be stopped at an early stage in accordance with the law.”
