Lithuania to build fence on border with Russia and Belarus by 2020

The Lithuanian government has also planned to purchase new equipment to strengthen the state border.

Together with the fence of about 2 meters, there are plans to set up video surveillance infrastructure.

According to the head of the Security service of the state border of Lithuania, the fence will not completely isolate the territory of Lithuania from Russia and Belarus, as it will not be built in the swamps or in other impassable places. The Lithuanian budget of 2017 provided € 3.6 million for the construction of the fence on the border with the Kaliningrad Oblast of Russia.

In 2020, the Lithuanian government also intends to provide border guards with drones and new hovercraft for search and rescue operations in the Curonian Lagoon.
