Head of Belarus Communist Party appointed as Minister of Education

Belarus Leader Alyaksandr Lukashenka has appointed First Secretary of the Communist Party Ihar Karpenka Minister of Education.

Lukashenka noted that he had chosen Ihar Karpenka among the many proposed candidates, state news agency BelTA reports.

“You do not need to be told of the ideological direction of our country. And you do not need to to be told what kind of education we need,” said the head of state.

“You are a modern person. And you well know the weaknesses of our Soviet education system, you know the best schools in the country and their shortcomings. You have an extensive experience in the social sphere, particularly in education. These are the main factors that persuaded me that it is Mr Karpenka who must head this sphere,” the President explained his decision to appoint the Minister.

Alyaksandr Lukashenka stressed that Ihar Karpenka is facing a lot of problems in the development and solving various problematic issues in education, including further implementation of a specific concept in this sector, improving the curriculum.

“Unfortunately, my instructions have not been fully implemented in education. And you need to implement it all,” said the leader of Belarus.

Prior to that, Ihar Karpenka was the main ideologist of Minsk City Executive Committee.

“The appointment of Ihar Karpenkas as Minister of Education is the proclamation that the education system in Belarus is dead. And, of course, it’s a disgrace and shame to the Belarusian people and the whole world, with the exception of North Korea. People there would appreciate it, they know that education brings only problems,” wrote on the new appointment in his Facebook the BPF leader Alyaksei Yanukevich.

The previous minister of education was Mikhail Zhuraukou who came from Salihorsk. This year, the minister avoided a journalist question about the knife attack at one of the capital’s high schools.
