Lida officials 'sold' Schengen visas for two years


According to the Investigative Committee, corrupt officials helped get Schengen visas for money “based on the agreement on cooperation of the Lida District Executive Committee with the administrative units of one of the European states.”

The criminal case was launched against the deputy chairman of the executive committee of Lida and the head of the Tretsyakou rural executive committee. Law enforcement officers interviewed more than 300 witnesses and gathered evidence that officials helped obtaining visas for money – allegedly to participate in cultural, sports and scientific events.

In total, officials were able to “sell” more than 150 visas. On average, the service cost about Br 1,5 million.

The case has already been sent to court, the charges were brought under articles of bribery and abuse of power.
