Authorities assess damage by corrupt official investigated by Belsat

Manager and employees of the utility company received illegal bonuses.

The amount of illegal bonuses exceeded 350 million rubles (more than $ 17.5 thousand).

The figure was announced by the Slonim inter-district department of financial investigations, which had launched a criminal case against the former head of under Part 3 of Article 424 of the Criminal Code of Belarus ( “abuse of power or official authority”).

Financial police’s attention was attracted by the big payments to the director and his employees which, according to the rules, depended on the profits of the enterprise.

During the inspection it was found that in 2013-2014 the company illegally included in the list of expenses paid from the budget the spendings on certain categories of workers and work in the amount of 2 billion rubles. Such manipulations allowed to receive reimbursement of expenses from the budget, rather than cover them from own income, as required by law.

As a result, the company was profitable on paper, and its manager and subordinates received bonuses, the amount of which exceeded 350 million rubles. A substantial part of these funds was paid to the “successful” manager.

Earlier, the ex-director had already attracted the interest of law enforcement officers by the use of his subordinates for construction work in the house of his son.

After all the details were revealed, it became clear that the case was about the former head of Slonim communal service Mikalai Syantovich. He was the “character” of the Belsat program “Human Affairs”, authored and presented by Ales Zaleuski. In his report the journalist spoke about the inhabitants of the Tankistau street in Slonim. During the privatisation, they were told to pay for the building renovation they had never had.
