Parliamentary candidate calls for new region with single language

During his TV address, a candidate from the Maladzechna District Mikhail Valynets made an interesting proposal.

“What is common between Maladzechna, Vileyka, and Smarhon? These are the towns where in 1994 Zyanon Paznyak won in the first round of the presidential election. These are the cities that once were part of the Maladzechna region.

Therefore, if I am elected deputy, I will raise the issue of the restoration of the Maladzechna region as it was at the beginning of 1960, from Lithuania to Zaslavl, from Latvia and Western Dzvina to Lida and Navahrudak, restoration of the Maladzechna region, with a special national status and the Belarusian language as the only state tongue. The Russian language should have the status of a regional language,” said the candidate.

In addition, Mr Valynets offered to create a free economic zone around Maladzechna.
