The local police have searched the flat of Ihar Salavey, an activist of the Pinsk branch of the movement ‘For Freedom’.

The policemen was tasked to carry out the inspection of his place.

“They had the prosecutor’s sanction and spoke to me politely. Their sights were set on my computer equipment. On entering the room, they immediately took a computer, a hard drive and a laptop saying that they were going to see to them,” the man said.

According to the activist, the policemen said that he had printed leaflets calling to take part in the protest rally on May, 1.

“Perhaps the search is a response to my participation in street protests. I was not preparing anything for May Day, I have no printed products,” he says.

On April 7, Ihar Solovey was sentenced for his involvement in a ‘non-parasite’ march in late March and for allegedly disobeying the police’s orders. A court in Pinsk sentenced him to 5 days in arrest and imposed BYN 230 fine on him.

In February-March, there has been an eruption of protesting the so-called ‘parasite’ law in Belarus. Hundreds of Belarusians were detained, fined, jailed after recent non-parasite marches. Most of them were accused of violating the order of holding mass events and disobedience to police officers’ demands. It should be noted that plainclothes policemen who refuse to show their IDs a or introduce themselves often beat people and prevented journalists from performing their professional duties.
