Journalist Valeryia Ulasik heavily fined for contribution to Belsat

Valeryia Ulasik has been found guilty of illegal production and distribution of media products.

A fine of BYN 690 has been imposed on the journalist for contributing to a news story aired by Belsat TV our channel on August 24 (watch the video above).

“This is a travesty of justice. I have repeatedly been present at trials of colleagues and friends; I know how such shows usually end. My trial is not an exception – I have been fined. In fact, they have ignored my statement that I did not distribute information, no one paid attention to my words. All they need to fine me is my presence,” Valeryia Ulasik says.

Valeryia Ulasik got an SMS informing her of the start of her trial at 11:00 on October 20 in Leninski district court of Minsk. The administrative article was not specified in the message.

Belarusian authorities are not giving peace to Belsat TV – five contributors have been recently summoned to courts and the police.
