Joint war game: Belarus, Russia troops drill Illegal armed group elimination (video)

Russia’s reinforced paratrooper company and Belarus’s air assault brigade are taking part in a joint tactical exercise in Vitsebsk region. Over 1,000 servicemen and 200 military vehicles are involved.

In the course of the scheduled war game, Belarusian and Russian paratroopers practiced blocking a populated locality, which had been captured by militants, state-run news agency BelTA reports.

According to the scenario of the exercise, militants used civilians as a human shield. Negotiations failed, the enemy refused to surrender and had to be eliminated.

The exercise held in Dretun and Losvida training grounds is coming to its end. The next game is to take place on April, 10-14 in Brest.

Today’s exercise is another phase of preparation for the ‘West-2017’ exercises scheduled for September, 14-20.

Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite believes that the ‘West-2017’ demonstrates the preparation of Belarus and Russia to the war with the West.

In late March, president Alyaksandr Lukashenka stated that Belarus was not going to curtail its military cooperation with Russia over ‘certain disagreements’ in other fields.
