Iranians banned from studying medicine in Belarus

Starting from August 1, Iran’s Ministry of Health banned students from this country to study in Belarus medical schools.

“Until further notice, the ministry will not accredit the certificates of students who will continue their studies in Belarus as of August 1,” said Dr. Hamid Akbari, Iran Deputy Minister of Education.

To enter the Belarusian State Medical University (Minsk), foreigners muhave to take paid training courses.

“Over the past year, a large number of Iranian students went to the Eastern European countries to continue their higher education in the medical field. Nevertheless, they were not able to go to university, and their future is in limbo,” said Akbari.

The problem is that the Belarusian State Medical University has an annual quota of 200 foreign students. Hundreds of Iranians who have completed training courses are waiting to begin training, but their status is uncertain.

For this reason, the Iranian Ministry has decided to ban new students from enrolling into training courses.

Young people’s concerned parents daily visit the Iranian Ministry of Health as well as the Belarusian embassy in Tehran.

According to Iranian business publication Financial Tribune, there are currently about 1,600 Iranian students studying in Belarus and about 400 have already received diplomas in various specialties.

Yesterday, Iranian media reported that an Iranian delegation will visit Belarus to try to solve the problem of students who have completed training courses.
