Interviewing may be extreme in Belarus: Minsk police grab cameraman, journalist

Cameraman Ales Lyubyanchuk and journalist Maria Artsybashava were detained and taken to a police station. Uladzimir Niakliayeu, a poet and ex-presidential candidate, is with the both detainees at the moment.

“They detained us when we were interviewing Uladzimir Niakliayeu. The police officers didn’t like us to be filming something. According to the official version, they held us for ‘checking’ – now they are finding out whether we are on the wanted list,” Ales Lyubyanchuk told Belsat by telephone.

The journalists were detained by Yury Chyrkou, a police officer at Savetsky district directorate of Interior. The fact that the interview was being hold in the Belarusian language got his attention.

(UPD) Ales Lyubyanchuk and Maria Artsybashava spent an hour at the police station. After confirming their identities and finding their names in the database the police officers released the crew.
