Telecommunication Inspection: Free Wi-Fi in buses only with permission of Defense Ministry


The advent of free Wi-Fi in buses announced by the mobile operator life:) is under threat.

Under the law, only end (subscriber) equipment installed inside buildings and structures, which does not use an antenna mounted outside the buildings, can be used to provide Wi-Fi without registration, Belarusian State Inspectorate for Telecommunications reports.

In buses, equipment and antenna would have to be placed directly on them. Such use does not comply with the law, and therefore requires registration.

“Since vehicles are not buildings and structures, in accordance with the provisions of the Communications Ministry and the State Commission for Radio Frequencies under the Security Council the use of Wi-Fi access points inside a vehicle requires a permit from the BelSIT and coordination with the Ministry of Defense”.

Using Wi-Fi access points within the vehicle without permission is illegal and entails administrative responsibility, said representative of the supervisory body.
