Ihar Boki becomes most award-winning athlete of Rio Paralympics


On Saturday Belarusian swimmer won another gold.

Belarusian swimmer Ihar Boki won the sixth gold medal at the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, winning the final swim in the 100 meters backstroke in the S13 category (for visually impaired athletes). The Belarusian man covered the distance with world record — 56.68 seconds. The second place was taken by Ukrainian Yaroslav Denisenko (59.02), the third place — by Canadian Nicolas Guy Turbide (59.55).

Together with the earlier won bronze medal, the total number of Belarusian awards in Rio grew to seven. Now Boki is the most titled athlete of the current games. Second in the general table came Ukrainian swimmer Maxim Krypak (5-3-0), third – Chinese swimmer Huang Wenpan (5-1-0).

Alyaksandr Lukashenka has congratulated the Belarusian athlete.

“Two world records, six records of Paralympic Games, six gold and one bronze medal — it is an outstanding result, which we all admire and are proud of,” said the head of Belarus.

In Rio Bokiy surpassed his medal results of London 2012. Four years ago the Belarusian won five gold medals and one silver one. Now Boki already has 13 Paralympic medals.
