Belarusian student Alyaksandra Chychykava was crowned Miss Wheelchair World in the first-ever edition of the beauty pageant held in Warsaw on Saturday.
Belsat TV journalist Denis Dziuba was the first to interview the girl immediately after the contest.
What was more difficult – to dare to participate or to participate?
It was not difficult to dare; it was a spontaneous decision, but at the airport I realized that it would be hard, but at the same time I knew that I wanted to go through it and gain experience.
The most difficult thing was to get aboard. I knew a new person would come back home.
How did it come that two Belarusians participated in the contest? [Another participant was Angelina Waleskaya – Belsat.]
I do not know anything about selection criteria, you’d better ask the jury. But I am glad that two girls from Belarus took part in such a wonderful competition.
Did you expect the victory? Maybe you knew you would win?
No, I did not. When I was on stage and the winner’s name was to be announced, I thought each girl might win. When I heard my name, I started to cry, I just could not believe it.
When giving points, all members of the jury applied completely different criteria. They chose you. Which special features do you have?
You’d better ask them. But I can say that I am very open and emotional. I think that the jury noticed it. Maybe it [openness] was one of their criteria.
Will the next competition be held in Minsk?
I will do all in my power to have it in Minsk next year.
What will change in your life now?
I expected a new person would return to Minsk. I got more power, resilience and, to some extent, self-belief – it means I believe I can overcome various difficulties and stressful situations. I am coming back being stronger, better and happier.
What important did you borrow from other participants?
I liked a positive attitude of the representative of Canada. Communicating with her, I cheered myself up. Each participant had someting special to share with the others.
