Hundreds of U.S. commandos to come to Ukraine – Interior Minister

U.S. army personnel will be participating in the military exercises that are to take place in Lviv region in April, Ukraine’s Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said on Facebook.

“I have a clear picture of Russian propagandists’ throwing fits  in mass media after my post. They’ll have work for a week, if not for a month”, Arsen Avakov wrote.

290 U.S. commandos are expected to  land on Yavoriv training site on April 20. There will be held long-term joint exercises and trainings of 173rd Airborne Brigade of the U.S. Army and combat units of Ukraine’s National Guard. This was agreed by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and U.S.Vice President Joe Biden.

The exercise will be attended by 900 soldiers of the National Guard units from Ukraine (‘Azov’,  Battalion ‘Jaguar’ named after Kulchytsky, ‘Omega and other units from Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odessa, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Vinnitsa). After the wargame the Americans will present their ammunition and communication tool to Ukrainian colleagues.

Earlier it was reported that Poroshenko signed a decree allowing NATO member states troops to conduct exercises in the territory of Ukraine.

On March 25 Ukraine received the first 10 armoured Humvees (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle) from the United States. The U. S. promised 230 Humvees in total, as well as $75 million worth of equipment including UAVs, counter-mortar radars, night vision devices, and medical supplies.
