Hrodna: Riot police detain Moscow historian, participants during lecture


On Monday, the Hrodna riot policemen broke in the building of the Urban Life Center where Moscow historian and anarchist Pyotr Ryabov was doing lecturing.

The subjects of the lectures were to be ‘Social Libertarian thought of the last third of the 20th – beginning of the 21st centuries” and ‘Informal movement in Belarus in the period of independence (1991-2010)’.

“The representatives of the anarchist movement were present there. The riot police appeared 10 minutes after the beginning of the first lecture. They took about 20 people, together with the lecturer. Now they are in Leninski district police department. The policemen also seized 14 books brought by Ryabov. Pavel Mazheyka, the owner of the Center, went to the police station to give necessary explanations,” Hrodna-based Belsat TV contributors said.

On his Vkontakte page Pyotr Ryabov introduces himself a modern Russian anarchist, a participant of ‘Autonomous Action’, PhD, associate professor of the Department of Philosophy of the Moscow State Pedagogical University.

At about 21.00, it became known that the police released the detainees except for the lecturer and one of the audience members.
