Historically significant balconies stolen in Hrodna again

Historians are missing more forged parts in Sverdlava street. The unknown even cut down stair railings of the 1920 building.

Pictures of the eclectic building from the early twentieth century taken several years ago still show modernist balconies with forged elements.

Same balconies on concrete piers remain in Hrodna, for example, in the building at the 12 Dzerzhinsky street, which historians date to 1930s.

When you come into the building in Sverdlava, it becomes clear that not only balconies disappeared: metal stair railings were also cut down by someone. The stairs reveal an old staircase, which means that the rails were probably stylistically consistent with the balcony.

If you climb to the roof, it becomes clear why there are puddles inside the building on the floor. It turns out that part of the slate from the courtyard …has been completely removed, so the building is in no way protected from rain or snow. After half a year like this, when the wooden rafters and ceiling begin to deteriorate, the stone structure will soon be in a dangerous condition.

Previously, building on Sverdlava 12 was part of the Suzorye art factory block. Now it is empty, and the surrounding area is used for parking. Check point at the entrance is also working in a strange mode: there is a light at night, but you can’t find anyone during the day. The entrance to the zone is free. There are no signs on the gate there.

The most scandalous case of the historic balcony theft in Hrodna took place in 2011, the year when in broad daylight the unknown cut down wrought-iron balconies of the XIX century from the building on 3 Kirov Street. The crime was never solved.
