Pilgrimage by helicopter now a reality in Belarus


Pilgrimage by helicopter is a new way to get spiritually reborn and know yourself in an hour.

Minsk Roman Catholic parish of St. Simon and Alena has initiated a new format of pilgrimages — helicopter travel from Minsk to Budslau, the official portal of the Roman Catholic Church in Belarus reports.

Every year first Friday and Saturday of July, there is a festival held in honor of the Icon of the Budslau Mother of God, which brings together thousands of participants of walking, cycling, car and motorcycle pilgrimages. The holiday gathers Catholics from all over the country, as well as guests from Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Lithuania and other European countries.

Flights to Budslau are performed by the Minsk DOSAAF aeroclub, with test flights on the route “Borovaya Airfield – Budslau” already conducted in April.

To the parish of Saints Simon and Alena (the Red Church) priest Uladzislau Zavalniuk is known for his love of aviation: he had previously entered the Belarusian State Academy of Aviation and was found fit to fly on small 2- and 4-seaters and sports aircraft.
